Seth Williams, son of Ray and Patty Jo Williams, was recently selected as the recipient of the First Annual Montrose Republican Women's Club Scholarship in the amount of $500. Seth has been accepted at the University of Colorado in Boulder for the fall of 2010 and will be pursuing a degree in Business. Montrose County Assembly
April 14, 2010

The Montrose Republican Party held a very successful County Assembly at Centennial Middle School on Saturday, April 10th, beginning at 9:00am. Out of a potential 198 delegates, there were 185 delegates in attendance along with 10 alternates who were promoted to fill vacant delegate seats for a total of 195 voting members of the Assembly.

After introductions, committee appointments, and ratification of the precinct committeepersons elected at the precinct caucuses on March 16, 2010, the Assembly proceeded to nominate and designate candidates for 6 County elected offices. The results of this process are as follows:

1) For County Commissioner, District 2, there were two candidates nominated, and after the votes of 193 members were tallied both candidates met the 30% minimum requirement to be designated to the Primary Ballot in August, 2010. Gary Ellis, the incumbent, will be first on the Primary Ballot since he received the largest number of votes with 124 (or 64.25%), and Glen Davis will be second on the Primary Ballot since he received 69 votes (or 35.75%).

2) For County Sheriff there were also two candidates nominated, and after the votes of 192 members were tallied only one candidate met the 30% minimum requirement to be designated to the Primary Ballot; that candidate being Rick Dunlap, incumbent, who received 161 votes (or 83.85%). Shawn Cline was also nominated; however, Shawn only received 31 votes (or 16.15%) which does not meet the minimum requirement.

3) Since only one candidate was nominated for County Assessor, County Clerk & Recorder, County Coroner, and County Treasurer each of the candidates for these elected offices received a unanimous ballot to be designated to the Primary election in August 2010. Those candidates are as follows: a) Brad Hughes, incumbent, for County Assessor; b) Fran Tipton-Long, incumbent, for County Clerk & Recorder; c) Dr. Tom Canfield, incumbent, for County Coroner; and d) Rosemary Murphy, incumbent, for County Treasurer.

After lunch, the Assembly proceeded to elect 42 delegates to the Senate District 6, House District 58, 3rd Congressional District, and State Assemblies along with an equal number of alternates to represent Montrose County. The Assembly finished with the adoption of one resolution which will be forwarded to the State and National Committees. This resolution follows the five principles adopted by the Montrose Republican Party.

Thanks to all who participated in this very successful and exciting Assembly.
